How to Choose a Meaningful Career
At some point in your life, you will have to consider starting your career instead of just working a job. You might have no idea what you want to dedicate your life, or you might have a very specific goal such as Florida marine construction. Whether you know where you are going or not, there are a few steps you can take to make sure that the career you pick will be meaningful and fulfilling.
If you’ve been working a job you hate for years and you feel compelled to quit, do it! This might be the only way you are able to find a job you love. You need to do it the right way, though. Make sure you don’t quit with no idea of what to do next; instead use intentional experimentation. Think of something you’ve always wanted to do and find a job in that field to see if you like it.
You might feel like you can’t apply to the field you love because you don’t have any experience. This is when you can leverage your skills to get yourself a job. Experience might be niche, but skills can apply to a broad range of positions and industries.
Before you start finding something that is meaningful to you, you need to know who you are. Our careers bring out the best in us so to find something that will do that you need to know which parts of your personality and goals are most important to you.
Finally, make sure you find the right location for your job. Not every city will be the right community to support your goals, so take time to research different areas and consider moving if your town isn’t the right place for you. If you have a supportive community, it will be easier to see the impact you are making.
